Vocational Training and Skill Development Program for Healthcare

Har Asha Foundation has partnered with Pratham to provide vocational training and skill development for Healthcare.

Pratham’s Healthcare training program is primarily oriented to young women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The ideal candidate falls within the ages of 18-30 years and has completed eighth grade.

This program includes a three-month Bedside Assistance course offered in affiliation with the Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). This course aims to fulfill the demand for nursing paraprofessionals in hospitals, clinics and patients’ homes and has been developed using the guidelines of the Skill Development Initiative Scheme (SDIS) based on modular employable skills approved by the National Council for Vocational Training.

Students receive a month and a half of classroom training at the Pratham center, followed by a month and a half of practical training at local hospitals. The course may be either residential or non-residential in nature, depending on the local situation. Students are then placed at local hospitals, nursing homes and as home care workers post completion of the training. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a joint certification from Pratham, NSDC and HSSC.

Har Asha Foundation has provided a multi-year grant to Pratham to support women enrolled in its Healthcare training program in India. It is expected that 50 women will participate in the program in 2015. The grant covers the cost of mobilization, training, placement and post-placement support.

Founded in 1995 to ensure that every child is in school and learning well, Pratham is now one of the largest non-governmental organizations in India’s education sector. Pratham uses low-cost, scalable methods and works in partnership with government and community stakeholders to provide quality education to under-privileged children in urban and rural communities across 21 India’s 29 states.
